Family Links Parenting Course at The Watchetts School
At the recent Confederation spring Conference we heard from Bev Norman, Head Teacher at The Watchetts school, regarding the background leading up to the first Family Links Parenting course that had been run in Surrey Heath Confederation as a collaboration between three schools in the area. We are very pleased to report that the first confederation funded course received excellent feedback, with many of the attendees now acting as advocates for the programme and being actively involved in recruiting parents for future courses.
Course facilitator Nikki Gumbs and Bev Norman, successfully applied to the Surrey Children’s Fund Programme and have been awarded a grant to fund a further three Family Links parenting courses. A second Family Links course started at The Watchetts School in April with an invitation extended to parents from a number of schools in the locality as well as through health visitors and other agencies.
This project is a real good news message and demonstrates brilliantly how an initiative can grow and become sustainable given the right planning and support. Well done to everyone who has made it possible, with special thanks to Bev Norman, Nikki Gumbs and Amanda Rayward as well as the great support received from the Family Links team.
We are keen to extend the opportunity to attend this programme to as many parents as possible and the course facilitators are keen to vary the venue of the course. If you would be willing to host a Family Links course at your school, or within a cluster of schools, please contact us!
Please contact the Confederation Project Manager if you would like further information on either pm_surreyheathconfed@hotmail.co.uk or 07809397811.
We look forward to hearing from you!
